So many key volunteers make the sport of Ice Skating possible in Queensland. Volunteering in Ice Skating helps create a sense of community, making a difference in the lives of others and can also help you build new knowledge and skills.
Volunteer for Ice Skating Queensland
Ice Skating Queensland is led and overseen by a volunteer Board or Council. The Council is elected or appointed in accordance with the ISQ Rules at the annual general meeting of the ISQ Members. This is typically held in May each year.
Additionally, the ISQ Council is supported by several Committees, which are also comprised of volunteers who have relevant professional or sporting experience to contribute to the responsibilities delegated to these Committees.
For both Council and Committee vacancies, ISQ will publicly announce these opportunities as well as directly email all ISQ Members. Learn more at our Council & Committees page.

Get involved in Judging & Officiating
Ice skating competitions require several key volunteers: judges, referee and technical specialists to evaluate skaters’ performances. To support these roles, competitions also require a data entry and video replay operator.
The majority of competitions in Queensland use the ISU Judging System. A maximum of nine judges make up the judging panel and will use this system to score the quality of each technical element and the three program components – composition, presentation and skating skills – of each skater.
Become a Coach
Coach education and accreditation is overseen by the Australian Professional Skaters’ Association (APSA). Anyone wishing to become a coach will need to first enroll in the Community Coach Accreditation Course (Level 0). You must be at least 16 years of age and have passed elementary patterns and free skate or dance ISA tests to start this course.
Visit APSA’s website here for accreditation courses and Approved Coach Mentors in Queensland.
