ISQ Welcomes Pascal Denis to Lead Dance Seminar

ISQ is excited to welcome Pascal Dennis to lead its April 12th Dance Seminar, taking place on Friday, 16th May at Iceworld™ Acacia Ridge & Sunday, 18th May at Iceworld™ Boondall. Skaters wishing to participate in this seminar must be accompanied by their coach. If a skater holds APSA coaching accreditation, they must enroll as a coach. ISQ Announces Accelerate Program Details for Term 2, 2025

We’re excited to return in Term 2 with the ISQ Accelerate Program. The Program’s aim is to accelerate the progression of motivated, young skaters from Free Skate levels through to elementary divisions. We wish to increase the number of young skaters entering into Preliminary competitions and see a stronger retention of these skaters progressing to Basic Novice. ISQ Accelerate Program Brisbane will run from Thursday 1st May to Saturday 21st June. Off-ice sessions on Thursdays and Saturday on & off-ice sessions will bring all skaters from both Brisbane facilities together at Iceworld Acacia Ridge. ISQ Accelerate Program (Free Skate) is open to any skater aged 11yrs or younger, currently at Aussie Skate Test 7-8, 9-10, Free Skate level 1, 2, 3, or 4. Ice Skating Queensland Selected to Host 2025 AFSC

The Board of Ice Skating Australia Ltd has announced that Ice Skating Queensland has been successful in our bid to host the Australian Figure Skating Championships (AFSC) this year in Brisbane. The 2025 edition will be held from 28th November to 5th December at Iceworld™ Boondall, and will include the following disciplines and categories: Synchronized Skating – all categories Singles – Basic Novice to Senior Pair Skating – Basic Novice to Seinor Ice Dance – Basic Novice to Senior Solo Ice Dance – Basic Novice to Senior As per ISA Communication 170, the Australian Adult Figure Skating Championships will be a separate Championships with dates and locations to be determined.

ISQ Welcomes Svetlana Guerreiro to Lead Dance Session

ISQ is excited to welcome Svetlana Guerreiro to lead its April 12th Dance Session, taking place at Iceworld™ Boondall. Svetlana is an ISU Technical Specialist for Ice Dance, coached Australian ice dancers Portia and Francis Rigby, and herself won two medals at World Junior Championships in 1984 and 1985. This Dance Session is open to all coaches and skaters from preliminary/pewter levels interested in Dance in the 2025-26 season. Parents are also welcomed to attend at no charge. The focus of the session will be Pattern Dances, including the pattern dance basics, free dance elements (e.g. twizzles), solo vs. couple dance and touch on competition. Note, everyone registered in the March 6th Dance Seminar have automatically been transferred to attend this April 12th Session. Iceworld™ Introduces Complimentary Helmets for Customers

Commencing this week, helmets will be available for use at all Iceworld™ venues to support our recommendation that a helmet be worn by all Skaters to reduce the severity of head injuries, including concussion. While we have not experienced any recent major incident or increase in head injuries being reported, this move aims to support skaters wishing to take that extra precaution.   Skaters are encouraged to bring their own well-fitted bike or skate helmet, ice hockey helmet or ski helmet. However, if skaters forget or don’t own a helmet, Iceworld now provides helmets as part of the entry fee. The complimentary helmets available come in three, adjustable sizes, from small (50cm-54cm) to large (58-62cm).   If any Skater elects not to wear a helmet, the Skater voluntarily accepts all risks associated with that election and Iceworld™ will not be liable…

Iceworld™ Boondall to Host Queensland Short Track Speed Skating Championships

Iceworld™ Boondall is excited to host the upcoming Queensland Short Track Speed Skating Championships this April. Queensland Ice Racing Association will be welcoming top speed skaters from across the country after they recently celebrated just one year until Australia takes on the world at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games in Italy. Queensland in particular has a storied history with Winter Olympic success in Short Track with Australia’s most famous Olympic gold medal winners, Steven Bradbury OAM, who was based out of Iceworld™ Acacia Ridge. The Championships will take place on Saturday, April 12, 8am to 11am, and Sunday, April 13, 7am to 10am. Spectators are encouraged to attend with a hot chocolate included in the $10 entry fee.

Iceworld™ & ISQ Announces Term 2 Aussie Skate™ School Competition

We are excited to announce the first Aussie Skate™ School Competition of 2025, scheduled for Saturday 28th June at Iceworld™ Boondall. This competition is an easygoing, introductory experience to competitive skating. Open to all skaters who are currently ISA registered, this Competition is supported by qualified Judges and is conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of Ice Skating Australia. Skaters in levels from Tiny Tots 2 through to Adult Free Skate, in addition to Dance (singles & pairs) and Synchronized teams are welcomed to compete. Competitors should be receiving private lessons in order to learn the required program. ISQ Remembers Vale Gretchen Doolan (nee. Malitz)

It is with sadness we announce that Gretchen Doolan passed away on 3rd January 2025. Gretchen Doolan was a member of Ice Skating Australia’s Hall of Fame and also a member of Legends of Australian Ice. From Legends of Australian Ice:  A former NSW State Champion, Gretchen performed floorshows at the Ice Palais and old Glaciarium while still at juvenile level. As far back as 1950, she skated with Cliff and Hazel Davidson, character skater Donna Whitaker, Janet Bell and Kath Sloman, the mother of Edwina Hewison. She took a personal interest in Elizabeth and Peter Cain in the early 70s. She coached them at the Canterbury ice rink where her husband Marcel was a founder and director. The natural pair came along beautifully. The Cains were the first Australians to win the pair title in the British Junior Ice…
