PLANNING YOUR VISIT

What to Wear

  • Long, thick socks will help keep you warm and provide padding for additional comfort in the skates
  • Dress in warm, comfortable clothing. Layers work well to maintain movement while keeping you warm
  • Gloves will help keep your fingers warm while keeping your hands out of your pockets for balance
  • You may also wish to have a scarf and beanie
  • Our rinks provide a cosy coffee shop to escape the chill with hot and cold food available. We also stock gloves and socks, just in case.
  • Only watching? Bring an extra coat or blanket to make sure you stay toasty warm on the sidelines or sit in our coffeeshop while you watch your friends and family on the ice!

Tips to Staying Safe on the Ice

  • Junior & Tiny Tot Skaters must always be supervised by an Adult. Don’t worry, we don’t expect you to be on the ice, that’s why Spectators are free! But you do need to keep an eye on your children to ensure their safety and the safety of those around them.
  • A well-fitted bike, ice hockey or ski helmet is recommended.
  • Skate Assist Penguins are available for hire at both rinks and provide stability and support for first time skaters. Best suited for Skaters 120cm tall or shorter.
  • Some Public Sessions may include an organised game by our Iceworld™ Rink Guards. These are NOT compulsory, and you should only participate if you feel confident doing so.

Public Skating at Iceworld™ – What you need to know

Once you arrive and check-in for your session, head through to skate rental where Iceworld™ staff will be able to provide you with your rental ice skates. Your skates should fit firmly without being too tight, and you don’t want your foot sliding around inside the boot, so make sure they’re not too loose! All buckles on the skate should be securely firmly and your ankle well supported by the top section of boot.

Once one of our Iceworld™ Rink Guards open the gates to the rink, step out onto the ice as soon as you’re ready! Hold the barrier to get yourself started, keeping your knees slightly bent as you move along the ice.

Public Sessions will commence with all skaters skating in the ‘general direction’, this is an anticlockwise direction around the ice. Iceworld™ staff may turn you around during the session, if this happens an announcement would be made over the PA system asking for skaters to begin skating in the ‘reverse direction’, which is a clockwise direction around the ice.

Need a break? Skates can be worn in our coffeeshop and bathrooms so you don’t need to worry about removing them to grab a snack or visit the restroom. Please don’t wear ice skates on any carpeted areas or outside, keep to the black rubber flooring to protect both the blades and yourself!
